I happen to have an amazing lab mix, full of personality and apparently, bored as of late. I had a weekend full of activities and a few late nights (interrupted by bathroom and feed breaks for her) and Liberty Belle, the wonder pooch, got creative.
I walked in late Saturday evening to find shredded garbage from one end of the living room to the other and a black dog that knew nothing on the subject, naturally. I clean it up, we head to bed.
First thing in the am, she’s swinging from chandeliers like she’s been living on pixie sticks for the last week. I head to the kitchen to make myself some be-nice-juice and find she has devoured the contents of a picnic basket I won earlier in the week. Contents of her stomach included (mind you also Saturday night dinner and Sunday am feeding to boot): a bag of cheese its, two travel containers of pringles (both original and sour cream), two packs of lance crackers (one cheese, one wheat, both with peanut butter of course), a chocolate pudding cup, a pack of oreos, half a pack of trident gum (to freshen up) and three travel tubes of crystal light (the size you add to a water bottle) to wash things down.
When I got back at lunch she was in a hurt locker. I’ll spare you the details but I do have an antique silk rug that could use a little professional tlc as Libbys impersonation of a Sick Puppy and mine as a professional carpet sweeper were not the costumes I had in mind this year.
By dinner, it was time to call the vet. The good doc was impressed with the sheer VOLUME of what she ate and was less concerned about the chocolate intake considering how many other starches were mixed in and hopefully absorbing/preventing damage. Not reassuring enough.

I tried a few of the suggestions but found swapping the mashed taters for grits an easy enough swap that made the patient happy and kept me from running out to the store. In the am, the vet also offered a trick, full fat vanilla iced cream, apparently coats their tummies like pepto does for us. Good old fashioned napping also helped her turn the corner but there was no avoiding her being miserable for a few days.

Thanks to all who stopped by 3234 Planters Lane in Jacksonville, NC today for a fantastic lunch catered by Lisa Davila. Dyal Photography was there to snap pics of local Realtors with Santa. The American Cancer Society and it’s major annual fundrasier, Relay for Life (http://www.relayforlife.org/), is a cause near and dear to our hearts. Jacksonville Board of Realtors man of the hour, Mike FX Burke was gracious enough to reprise his role for us as jolly St. Nick. We need high school volunteers for the Jacksonville Litter Free Holiday Parade / Environmental Elf Program.
Those that are interested should meet at the parking lot on the right side of the Coastal Carolina Community College science building (look for Environmental Elves sign) at:
no later than 8am on Saturday the 19th of November.
You can also preregister by emailing
Lisa_Rider@onslowcountync.gov . Environmental Elves program helps high school students earn SAT credit hours by walking in the parade collecting recyclables and trash from parade watchers. Hats, bags, etc will be provided and the first two volunteers to show up will have the option to hold the banner.
The parade starts at 9am and traffic will be blocked, so you need to make arrangements to have students dropped at the parking lot at CCCC by 8am and meet them at the end of the parade (Brynn Mar Shopping Center). The parade ends at noon and the walk takes about 30 minutes from start to finish. (Elves will be located all throughout the parade so some will finish earlier than others.)
It is best for parents to be at the end of the parade by 9am. Parents can also walk in the parade with students if they choice to. Please bring SAT credit hour forms in order to receive credits. YOU MUST BE AT THE PARKING LOT BY 8am at the LATEST in order to participate in the parade and receive credit!!!

Ding dang, Y’all! I’m adding another iron or two to the fire, especially ambitious ones that makes me feel like I am about to earn my black belt in plate spinning at the circus.
What are they? I’d love to tell you, but then you’d know. But anyone with knowledge (or a friend or two) that builds sites and likes questions and is possibly interested in joining a team, let me know. I’m interested in learning more about creating an open forum website with multiple communication platforms both for content and user log ins. . .the one thing I do know, I plan for it to be orange! ;-) I’ll be pouring through the trusty contact list to build possibly a board of directors or contributors, so if I give you a holler, I swear I’m not trying to sell you a home at the moment.

HI guys,
A favor to ask for a dear childhood friend of mine. Maria has been ill
since the summer after our graduation and has yet to recover. Treatment has
included a four organ transplant and this year, she is up for yet another
transplant. Once a bright, college-bound athlete and the picture of health
and by far our friend with the sunniest personality, she’s been a prisoner
to basically, a mystery illness.
She has made it to the finals for an HGTV makeover/renovation of her home,
which would be her sanctuary for recovery after her surgery.

**** UPDATE-I have had folks ask HOW to vote. Towards the top right there is a series of stars, when you pass your mouse over them, they turn red. . .click the far right star next to her “score” and it votes for you. I believe you can only vote once but we are looking into the HGTV rules. So, in case you can only vote once, spreading the word really helps since every vote for Maris is so precious.
